This cozy cabin was mom’s dream 35 years ago when Sisters, Oregon was a fold on the map (yes, they had real paper maps in those days that folded) and Tollgate was just an investor’s dream, My parents bought a bare piece of ground in the young development. A lifelong school teacher, it was her dream to retire in a cabin in the woods, and Tollgate seemed like to perfect spot to live out that dream.
Mom and Dad built this simple cabin for the two of them with wood heat and lots of family togetherness being the main ingredients, but after a few years, the dream went unfulfilled and life’s events lead them elsewhere. It was always her dream to make it back to the cabin, but she lost a battle with cancer in 2015, and Dad soldiered on for another 5 years until blood cancer got the best of him as well.
My wife and I inherited this cozy cabin and remodeled it from top to bottom replacing and refurbishing everything (including the kitchen sink) but the original log walls and wood stove. The dream now lives on, and by staying here, you become a part of it.
